SPORTS REPORT

If you’ve been following along on the LowcoSports Lowdown, you know we were calling for the possibility of all four Region 7-4A boys soccer teams who qualified for the playoffs to advance through the first two rounds. And they did.

May River’s boys went on the road and took down undefeated A.C. Flora in a 5-3 victory, and the Bluffton Bobcats ousted Myrtle Beach in a penalty shootout on the road, preserving the possibility of round 3 of the Bluffton Derby in the Lower State finals. The Sharks travel to James Island and the Bobcats trek to Lucy Beckham on Friday.

In the Class 1A bracket, Bridges Prep made quick work of Whale Branch in a 9-nil victory and will host a third-round matchup with Dixie, while Royal Live Oaks slipped past Baptist Hill 1-nil and hosts Southside Christian in the quarterfinals.

And the girls from Hilton Head Prep and John Paul the 2nd both took care of business in their final tune-ups before the playoffs last night, as the Dolphins rallied past HHCA for a 7-2 win and JPII earned a 2-1 comeback win over Palmetto Christian.

Our friends from Beaufort’s Own had a softball showdown between Beaufort High and Dillon last night, and despite another strong outing from Kylie Rast – in the circle and at the plate — the Eagles let one slip away, falling 6-3 to drop into the elimination bracket.

On the baseball diamond, May River slid into the elimination bracket after a 5-1 loss to top-ranked North Myrtle Beach, while Hilton Head High was eliminated and Bluffton stayed alive, rallying to beat Irmo 13-8 on the road. John Paul the 2nd also kept its season alive with a 10-5 win over Northside Christian for the first playoff win in program history.
