Experience the Culture: Highlights From the Gullah Food & Arts Festival
We took a trip to the Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island for the annual Gullah Food and Arts Festival! The event brought together amazing local food vendors serving up authentic dishes like seafood rice and homemade pound cake, alongside handcrafted Gullah art, sweetgrass basket weaving, and live musical performances from artists across the country.
Founded in 2003 by Dr. Louise Miller Cohen (Who was also celebrating her birthday the day of the festival!), the Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island sits on historic ground at 12 Georgianna Drive. The site features the ""Little Blue House,"" also known as the William ""Duey"" Simmons House, built in 1930 to preserve the rich heritage, traditions, and resilience of the Gullah Geechee people in the Lowcountry.
To learn more about the museum and any future events, check out their official schedule of presentations and visiting hours at the Gullah Museum Website and on their socials! Thank you again so much to the Gullah museum for your incredible hospitality and continuing to spread
