Soggy field conditions thinned out the area sports schedule last night, but the rain cleared out in plenty of time to hit the soccer pitch, and Team Lowco’s Conner Worl was in The Nest to see if the Hilton Head Seahawks could boost their playoff hopes with a result against Region 7-4A leader Lucy Beckham.
A defensive standoff gave way to a wild finish, as the Bengals opened the scoring in the 70th minute and the teams traded goals until the Seahawks found the equalizer in the 90th minute, only to see Beckham answer in stoppage time to escape with a 3-2 win.
May River made quick work of Colleton County, as the girls cruised to a 12-nil win and the boys rolled 9-nil to give coach Misael Garzon his 100th career win. Coach Misa joined us on the LowcoSports Lowdown last night to reflect on the milestone and add insight into the Lowco soccer landscape.
Beaufort High’s boys stunned Philip Simmons in penalties, Holy Trinity’s girls blanked Colleton Prep, and HHCA swept region matchups from John Paul the 2nd, as the girls claimed a 3-2 win in overtime and the boys blanked the Golden Warriors 2-nil to run their winning streak to six games. Keep an eye on the Eagles.
The boys lacrosse teams from May River and HHCA picked up wins, Hilton Head boys tennis edged Lucy Beckham in a key region match, and Bluffton’s Madi Washington celebrated signing day. Washington will join the track and field team at Winthrop University.
