Tuesday, Nov 29, 6:00 p.m. Our nonprofit Pat Conroy Literary Center will host an evening with award-winning novelist Carla Damron, author of The Orchid Tattoo, in conversation with Conroy Center executive director Jonathan Haupt at the Conroy Center (601 Bladen St.). Carla is a retired social worker who addresses social themes in her award-winning fiction. The Orchid Tattoo is a fast-faced thriller about human trafficking. Damron will also be making a school visit to Beaufort Academy while in town.
Thursday, Dec 8, 6:00 p.m. (Facebook Live) Our monthly virtual Open Mic Night is presented on Zoom in partnership between the Pat Conroy Literary Center and the South Carolina Writers Association. Our featured writer for December is Juan Eugenio Ramirez, author of the surrealist novel The Man with Wolves for Hands, winner of the Nilsen Prize for First Novel. He will be joined by a pantheon of local poets, fiction and nonfiction writers also sharing short readings from their own work.
The new Camp Conroy Little Lowcountry Library has been installed at the Depot Road Trailhead of the Spanish Moss Trail. The library was built by Ed Kulisek, painted by Aki Kato, and decorated by Camp Conroy counselors Miller Bennett, Alex Bosley, Lem Lemstrom, and Bailey Bates.
