It was a great run for the Lowco at the South Carolina Junior Golf Association’s inaugural match play championships this week at Congaree Golf Club out in Ridgeland, but we weren’t able to keep the titles at home.
After Hilton Head Prep star Bridget Wilkie came up just short in 19 holes in the girls final Wednesday, Hilton Head Christian Academy standout Gabe Schmitz made his own run at the boys title Thursday morning against Rowan Sullivan of Charleston. Schmitz stumbled out of the gate and Sullivan got off to a red-hot start to take a 6up lead through eight holes. Schmitz won three out of four holes on the back nine to pull within three, but Sullivan edged Schmitz on No. 16 to seal the win.
We have another high school football sneak peek on tap tonight with the Bluffton Bobcats holding their spring game, and you’ll be able to check out a few prospects who are turning heads this offseason. Star linebacker Jeremiah Curry is up over double-digits now after picking up scholarship offers from Charlotte and Georgia State this week, and the 49ers and Panthers also extended offers to recent May River transfer Carnell Warren along with Toledo.

The hottest recruit in the Lowco continues to be Hilton Head High’s Shaikh Thompson, who at last count had 19 offers with Charlotte, Middle Tennessee, and Troy the latest to enter the fold.
