Beaufort County Children Learn Essential Oral Health Habits Through Delta Dental of South Carolina’s Land of Smiles® Program
1. This winter and spring, Delta Dental of South Carolina’s popular Land of Smiles® dental education program is taking its crusade for healthy teeth to 20,000+ kids at 75+ schools statewide.
2. With tooth decay remaining the leading chronic disease affecting children and nearly 20% of South Carolina students in kindergarten through third grade having untreated cavities, establishing essential oral health habits at an early age has never been more vital.
3. This past Thursday and Friday, the cast of dynamic superhero characters – featuring Captain Super Grin® and his sidekicks – stopped in Beaufort County, S.C., visiting more than 420 K-3rd grade students at Hilton Head Preparatory School in Hilton Head Island, James. J. Davis Early Learning Center in Seabrook, and Hilton Head Christian Academy and Saint Gregory the Great Catholic School in Bluffton.
4. Students learned the importance of brushing teeth twice a day, flossing, using mouthwash, eating healthy foods and visiting the dentist regularly. Each student also received a free “smile bag” with a toothbrush, toothpaste and dental floss to help them practice the good oral health habits they learned.
5. Since its inception in the fall of 2014, the Delta Dental of South Carolina’s Land of Smiles® program has impacted 340,000 kids in 44 South Carolina counties through in-person and virtual elementary school performances.
6. The program is offered at no cost by Delta Dental of South Carolina.
