RBC Heritage is here, and so is Birdies for Charity! Second Helpings is looking forward to Heritage and all the amazing events the Island has all week. Every year so many people enjoy the Heritage week and use that time to give back in a big way!
We are growing! We have looked at our fleet of trucks, and in order to keep up with the growing needs of the community, we are buying another refrigerated truck! Our volunteers work so hard every day all across the tri-county area, and we put a lot of miles on the trucks. We are blessed to have the Hickory Fund, which is offering a Matching donation of up to $25,000 towards the purchase of a new truck. We have nine trucks and try to keep three in each area which allows us to run multiple truck routes each day, even when we have one out for maintenance. The community has been so amazing to us over the years and we are so thankful for all the support we have received.
Post Vacation Food Donation 2024
We are starting back up with PVFD from Memorial Day to Labor day! We are excited about round two and have had lots of property managers asking about the program. The local community also is getting behind it and it is gaining popularity with the locals. We will still be at Grayco Parking lot and are looking for locations to put receptacles/collection bins out to catch some of the tourists.
This initiative has provided a wonderful opportunity for many to give back and support those who contribute to making our island a remarkable place to visit. The operating hours have been adjusted slightly, and we will be at the Grayco from 7:30-10 to collect food, a time that we hope will be convenient for everyone.
Now is a great time to get involved with your local food pantry and its easier than ever to give back to make a big impact. Every $1 puts 5 meals back into the community and helps those who really need it.
