SPORTS REPORT

Hey, it’s time for Last Night in the Lowco on WHHI, powered by LowcoSports.com!

It was a busy night on the basketball courts as we barrel toward the playoffs next week, and a few Lowco teams improved their standing with big wins last night.

Bluffton’s girls already had the Region 7-4A title locked up, and the Bobcats survived a scare at James Island to run their winning streak to 17 games, but the big story unfolded in The Nest, starting with Lynda Young taking the court – giant knee brace and all – to score the opening bucket on senior night before the Seahawks claimed a thrilling 55-52 overtime win to climb into a tie for third with second place within reach.

Our friends at Beaufort’s Own were in The Other Nest at Beaufort High last night with the Eagles hosting Hanahan for their regular-season finale, with the girls hoping to knock off the Hawks and claim the No. 2 seed from Region 8-3A. Beaufort put up a strong defensive effort and slowed down the game but couldn’t get over the hump in a 29-17 loss, so it’s the three seed for both Beaufort teams, as the boys were able to grind out a 48-38 win behind 15 from Samari Bonds and 13 from AJ Newton.

Speaking of Eagles, HHCA star Devon Yarde hit the 1,000-point milestone last night in a 57-32 win over Woodville-Tompkins. Yarde and Mya Hutchinson each had 14 points, and Morgan Scott added 13, but only Devon got the ice water shower in the locker room. Good stuff.

Patrick Henry swept Beaufort Academy on the road Tuesday with Lillian Lucas falling one assist shy of a triple-double to lead the girls and Daivon Glover scoring 18 points to pace the boys.

Ridgeland-Hardeeville earned a sweep at Edisto, and John Paul the 2nd swept Thomas Heyward – another 28 points and 13 boards for Brady Mahoney.

For LowcoSports and WHHI, I’m Justin Jarrett. Until next time, Go Lowco!
