Amaza Reitmeier & Andy Horn: Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease

Revolutionizing the Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease
April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month

Amaza Reitmeier, VP and General Manager of Medtronic Brain Modulation
Andy Horn, Parkinson’s Disease Patient

Parkinson's Disease, a progressive central nervous system disorder, causes symptoms – like tremors and loss of bodily control – which significantly impact patients’ quality of life. With over 11 million Americans coping with movement disorders and close to one million diagnosed with Parkinson's, the impact of these conditions is significant.

Amaza Reitmeier, VP and General Manager of Medtronic Brain Modulation, will discuss Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), the latest advancement in the treatment of movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease; its impact on improving the quality of life for patients; and what’s next for this technology. DBS uses a surgically implanted medical device, similar to a cardiac pacemaker. The technology can help control debilitating tremors for people living with Parkinson's, providing patients with the ability to physically engage in everyday moments – something many of us unintentionally take for granted.

She will be joined by Andrew “Andy” Horn, a Navy veteran and Medtronic DBS patient, who will share his journey with Parkinson’s disease. He will share how DBS technology has improved his symptoms dramatically and helped him reclaim his life. There will be b-roll to accompany his story, illustrating improvement in his motor functions due to DBS therapy.

Amaza Reitmeier is the VP and General Manager of Medtronic Brain Modulation. She leads the team at the forefront of DBS innovation at the company.

Andrew “Andy” Horn is a Navy veteran who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2015. As his disease progressed, he found himself several medications a day manage his symptoms. He feared he was losing his individuality and his independence, and began researching DBS. Last year, Andy received Medtronic DBS therapy and his symptoms improved dramatically.
