Controlling growth in southern Beaufort County using these means:
• Purchasing open space with a combination of county greenspace money, state resource agency money (including Forestry Commission, Department of Natural Resources, Office on Resiliency), federal money via the Forestry Legacy Program managed by the US Forestry Service
• Resisting the constant attempts by developers to upzone (increase permitted building density) for their land projects
• Be more aggressive with assessing development impact fees to force development to pay for the costs of the growth (wider roads, more schools and fire and police, etc.)
• Better enforcement of environmental standards.
