Upcoming Hispanic Heritage Events & Library Programs
Canvas of Cultura!: A Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibit: We’re kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month on Monday, September 15 with Canvas of Cultura: A Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibit. Local Latinx artists will be sharing their creativity through drawings, paintings, photography, and sculpture. We’d love for everyone to join us at the opening reception at 5:30 p.m. to meet some of the artists and hear about the inspiration behind their work. The exhibit will stay up through October 15, so there’s plenty of time to stop by and enjoy it.
Our Cultures, Our Stories: A Hispanic Heritage Celebration: Our biggest celebration is coming up on Saturday, October 4, with the fourth annual Our Cultures, Our Stories: A Hispanic Heritage Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We’ll be turning our Large Meeting Room into a vibrant cultural showcase. There will be live Latin music from Enrique Torres Vega, cultural dances, cooking demonstrations, and even tastings of traditional foods. Families can enjoy bilingual storytelling, face painting, and a craft buffet for the kids—and this year, we’re adding a craft activity just for adults. It’s truly a fun, family-friendly event that brings the community together.
Dia de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life and Remembrance: Then, on Saturday, November 1, we’ll host our second annual Día de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life and Remembrance from 11 a.m. to noon. This program is all about honoring the traditions of this joyful Mexican holiday. Visitors can see an ofrenda, decorate sugar skulls or cookies, and enjoy light refreshments as we learn and celebrate together.
